Good movies for grownups & kids: The Iron Giant

Here's a great movie for parents and kids alike: The Iron Giant. When our boy protagonist befriends a giant robot from outer space who has lost his memory, we get a friendship movie with some dark overtones and a happy ending.

The animation in this movie is beautiful, especially the motion of the giant robot. The film has strong cold war overtones and a good message (fear and violence beget more fear and violence, while friendship and understanding can save the day).

My son and his buddy Jehan who are 4 both loved this movie and weren't scared, although there are definitely some scary moments (the robot can arm himself with weapons, though he can't remember why). I loved it too.
